Providing safe, reliable, high quality drinking water is always the highest priority for the District. As we have told you in a previous letter, the District provides water services to over 1900 customers in the Cuernavaca neighborhood. We wanted to take this opportunity to inform you of some great news regarding the drinking water supplied by Travis County WC & ID 18 (“the District”).
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency establishes standards for drinking water. These standards include maximum levels for Trihalomethanes (TTHM). Trihalomethanes are a group of volatile organic compounds that are formed when chlorine, added to the water during the treatment process for disinfection, reacts with naturally-occurring organic matter in the water. The maximum standard applicable to TTHMs is 0.80 milligrams per liter (mg/L).
The Board of Directors is pleased to announce that changes made by the District’s new operations company, Crossroads Utility Services, have resulted in significantly lower levels of Trihalomethanes in the District’s drinking water supply. Recent testing performed by an independent laboratory used by the State of Texas shows that TTHM levels have dropped to .049 milligrams per liter (mg/L). This is obviously much lower than then regulatory limit mentioned above of 0.80 milligrams per liter (mg/L).
The Board appreciates your patience in our work to achieve these results. We look forward to making more changes moving forward to improve our water treatment and delivery systems.
Should you have any questions regarding these results, please contact our General Manager Mike Morin at 512-689-0317 or [email protected]
As a reminder, the Board regularly meets on the second Monday of each month. The meetings are held at 7:30 PM in the District office at 1502 San Juan Drive. The meetings are open to the public and everyone is welcome to attend. Each meeting’s agenda is posted outside the office at least 72 hours in advance. Each meeting includes an opportunity for community members to provide comments and ask questions of the Board of Directors.
Thank you,
