December 5, 2024 RE: Travis County W.C.I.D. #18 Water Rate Increase Dear Resident,
The Board of Directors for Travis County W.C.I.D. #18 has had an analysis of the maintenance needed on the water system and has identified several areas that need updating or repairs. The Board is moving forward with issuing bonds that will allow these repairs to take place. These bonds will be paid for from the district’s water revenues. The bonds are going to be issued in the first months of 2025. The Board did approve a rate increase at its November Board meeting. These new rates will go into effect starting with the January 6 meter read. You will see the effect on the bill that you receive in February and due at the end of the month. The district has not had a rate increase in many years. It has looked at other systems in the area and is currently selling water at one of the cheapest rates in the Austin Metro Area. While the Board has worked hard to keep these rates down, it is not possible to keep them at the current rates due to rising costs and aging infrastructure. The Board of Directors hired a rate consultant to review the operating revenues and expenses of the district. The rates that were recommended by this consultant were ultimately approved by the Board. The new rates bring the district in line with many of the other area utilities. The formula used to come up with the new rates was done in conjunction with the current Public Utility Commissions guidelines to ensure that the rates are fair to everyone. This rate study is posted on the district’s website for anyone that would like to review it. The district website is TCWCID-18.org. If you have any questions regarding this subject, you can email the District’s General Manager Mike Morin at [email protected] to discuss. Thank you in advance.
