The District recently performed a service line test to see if service lines from the meter to the home contained lead or galvanized piping to the house. The houses that we were not able to determine what they had were sent a letter saying so. The following information pertains to that survey.
Understanding the Lead and Copper Rule and Your Water Service Line Classification
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) established the Lead and Copper Rule (LCR) to protect public health by reducing lead and copper levels in drinking water. As part of this regulation, water systems must inventory service line materials and inform residents of their findings. Service Line Classifications:
What Does 'Unknown' Mean?
A classification of 'Unknown' indicates that, despite our efforts, we lack sufficient information to determine the material of your service line. This could be due to incomplete records or inaccessible service lines.
If You Received a Letter:
If you received a letter indicating that your service line material is classified as 'Unknown,' it means we currently do not have enough information to determine the material of your service line. We are committed to ensuring the safety of your drinking water and are working diligently to update our records.
Your Role in Ensuring Safe Drinking Water:
We encourage residents to assist in identifying service line materials. If you have information about your service line or can provide access for inspection, please contact us. Your cooperation is vital in helping us update our records and ensure the safety of our community's drinking water.
